Character Development at Attleboro

I’m excited to have been invited to participate in such a unique exhibition opportunity at the Attleboro Arts Museum. February 15 – 29, 2020.

Character Development features portraits from Attleboro Arts Museum’s permanent collection alongside contemporary portraits they inspire. Each participating Character Development artist has chosen one portrait from a subset of the Museum’s permanent collection. The goal for the artist is to visually respond to the selected work.

More about the exhibition:
During the early years of the Attleboro Arts Museum several area residents supported the organization by gifting fine art, Today, the Museum presents an annual winter exhibition featuring collection highlights. These yearly shows allow the organization to share segments of its holdings and honor exceptional works donated by its early patrons.

In 2016 and 2017 our permanent collection shows featured select Museum art and objects – alongside original interpretations from invited artists. The response to these shows were overwhelmingly positive and prompted the development of 2020’s permanent collection exhibition entitled Character Development. This exhibition will include portraits from the Attleboro Arts Museum’s permanent collection and companion contemporary pieces inspired by select collection holdings.

Each participating Character Development artist will choose one portrait from a subset of the Museum’s permanent collection. The goal for the artist is to visually respond to the select work. Artists are encouraged to use their personal slant and style to create a new work that is inspired by, or reflects, the Museum holding.

I look forward to working with Girl with Flowers by Frank Holman (1865-1930) — and can’t wait to get started.
