Many of my paintings explore puns—both visual and linguistic—balancing humor with more serious undertones. I’m especially interested in how subtle shifts in language can reshape meaning and prompt reflection. This piece plays off the phrase “Make America Great Again” by substituting “Great” with “Grate”—a simple wordplay that dramatically alters the message. To “grate” is to shred: values, truth, the Constitution, our global standing, and a shared way of life. Grate Again invites viewers to reconsider familiar rhetoric from a more critical perspective.
This painting will be included in the upcoming solo exhibition Still Matters, opening April 18 at Alofft Gallery in Litchfield, Connecticut. For exhibition details and inquiries, please contact Alofft Gallery.
