I am thrilled for the opportunity to be back at Lyme Art Association’s historic gallery space and have work exhibited alongside such an impressive group of artists.

An Exhibition in Four Acts showcases the assorted styles of the Lyme Art Association’s talented member artists. Each juried “act” looks at the world through a different lens. The four acts are “Phases of Light”, “Rock of Ages”, Stillness: A Still Life” and “Strictly Abstract”.

Whether it is dawn’s gentle glow, midday’s intense brilliance, a sunset’s warm hues, or ethereal moonlight, “Phases of Light” celebrates the beauty of light. Member artists delve into the interplay between shadow and light to capture the essence of illumination. “Rock of Ages” examines the geological beauty of the earth, focusing on the rocks and stones that define the foundation of a landscape. “Stillness: A Still Life” is an introspection into the world of still life. The painter Giorgio Morandi states that “[t]o achieve understanding it is necessary not to see many things, but to look hard at what you do see.” In moments of chaos, the quiet beauty of art can function as a temporary pause for both artists and viewers. And lastly, “Strictly Abstract” focuses on the abstractions of life and nonobjective art making.
